The Southwestern Institute for the Advancement of Psychotherapy (SIAP) is a limited liability company founded by Elaine S. LeVine, Ph.D. in 1999 in order to provide quality continuing education training for doctorally-trained and licensed psychologists practicing in different sites throughout New Mexico.  Within the last several years, SIAP has also partnered with other institutions and organizations providing training for doctoral-level psychologists to offer continuing education credit.

SIAP has offered course work in psychopharmacology independently and in collaboration with New Mexico State University.  In September 2012, a full time academic position was established in the APA-accredited Counseling and Educational Psychology Department at New Mexico State University to assume directorship of the postdoctoral Interdisciplinary Master’s Degree in Psychopharmacology. SIAP continues to play an advisory role, as well as to monitor the continuing education component of the Master’s Degree.

In addition, SIAP is committed to advancing quality programs for psychologists throughout the State by cosponsoring programs with the State Psychologist Association (SPA), the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at New Mexico State University, and the mental health practitioners in the Las Cruces Public Schools.

SIAP is committed to offering coursework that honors ethnic diversity and personal variations.  The instructors come from various ethnic backgrounds and are male and female. Classes are taught in facilities that are handicapped-accessible and meet American Disability Act Compliance Guidelines.

Participants are always encouraged to contact the Director of SIAP with any concerns or ideas about the postdoctoral training needs for psychologists from New Mexico and elsewhere.
