Description: This is a two-hour workshop focused on psychological evaluations for psychologists who provide such evaluations for surgeons as required by insurance companies. The overall focus of the workshop is to provide participants with evidence-based practices in conducting psychological evaluations for patients with chronic pain. A total of 2.0 total hours of continuing education credit is being requested for the presentation.
Learning Objectives:
The participant can specify the necessary components of the psychobiosocial history when conducting evaluations for appropriateness of back surgery.
The participant can describe the reliability and validity of the West Haven and Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (WHYMPI).
The participant can list three psychological methods of intervention to spinal cord stimulation surgery that can improve outcome.
Method and Length: The presentations will be given live and will last for two hours.
Confidentiality: Confidentiality of the material in the workshop will be strictly maintained. All cases reviewed will be appropriately masked and prior consent as appropriate will be obtained.
Relevance to Psychologists: This program is directly relevant to psychologists who provide psychological evaluations prior to surgical procedures for pain.
